New Maryland Health Insurance Law May Be Easier, But Is It Cheaper

Michelle Katz, MSN, cautions residents on new Maryland Law offering Health Insurance to residents with unmarried dependents under 25 on CBS-WUSA’s Mind Over Money

Washington, D.C. (June 28, 2007) Michelle Katz, MSN, comments on a new Maryland Law to take effect next year on CBS-WUSA’s Mind Over Money, June 29,  at 9 a.m. This law will allow some parents to keep their unmarried children under the age of 25 on their insurance plan, but is it cost effective?

“Double check your insurance policy to be sure you are not already paying for this in your plan,” urges Katz, “and if you did not make this previous arrangement, find out if it is really the most cost effective option for you and your college child.”  Katz, who is the author of 101 Health Insurance Tips and Healthcare for Less, recommends that new graduates who are young and healthy take into consideration individual plans such as Healthcare Savings Accounts, which may end up being cheaper than staying on their parents’ insurance plans.  Ms Katz also warns that aside from cost, one must always take into account the quality, choice of doctors and hospitals, access to specialty care, and costumer satisfaction when considering any new plan.
